Ditch the heels for SportsYoga after Christmas
Within our bodies we have two main kinds of energy: chemical and electrical. Chemical energy is transmitted via the blood system. Electrical energy is transmitted via the nervous system. So when it comes to working out, most of the energy escapes through sweat and muscle tension and we are left feeling tired and we may even question ourselves as to whether it is worth the pain!
Yoga is unique in the sense that it work on holding the vital energy within the body through breathing techniques and bandas.
Disease can also be cause by crystallized energy in the joins whereby the mind may have let go of an issue that may have happened years ago but the physical body will hold on to it in the form of a dis-ease.
I am not going to ramble on about energy blockages but what I would like you to do is to come along on Tuesday evening and enjoy a light hearted, joint releasing workshop that will leave you energized for days,
Improve your energy flow within the body while breaking down neuro-muscular knots especially in the pelvic region where energy tends to stagnate. This SportsYoga.ie energy building and power-developing workshop is fun and energetic and be prepared to wipe your brow!

Have you ever been told to lock your knees in a yoga class? As a Yoga Therapist, my advice to you is DO NOT LOCK your knees ever! This workshop is based on enforcing correct alignment of the knee and with the use of props, I will ensure the balance of strength and release with no sudden movements, planting, pivoting, and no deep squats. This workshop is a must for serious athletes who may have to pivot or turn suddenly in their game.

This is my second workshop and let me explain what I mean by “Playing your edge”. This workshop is based on Yin yoga and we will explore how to come into a pose, tuning in to feeling significant resistance in the body and pausing. The pause will give your body a chance to react and to release, after a minute or so,I will guide you to move deeper into the pose.
The majority of people who train on a regular basis would never consider that it is equally important to be able to settle into postures for a period of minutes but to find your edge and remain there. It is a tough wrestling match between the mind contending with the body, trying to force it into postures, while the body is resisting.so it is a challenging workshop.
So now we have established that there is two sides to every coin, in fact there is two sides to everything. This workshop is based on the theory of Yin and Yang, Yang is about changing the world which we all like to do at times! The essence of yin is learning to yield and let the body recognize that if you are patient, you will go deeper into the stretch and connective tissue.

I am delighted to be able to announce the first of the six yoga therapy workshops that I have organised before Christmas.
It is quite common for athletes to develop tightness and a limited range of motion (ROM) in the spine. The spine can be tight in one area and have normal or even extra flexibility in another. Athletes train many hours to achieve results but by freeing the spine, they can achieve that extra percent. This workshop is working with the spine in mind and I will take you through an effective approach to increasing the range of motion in specific areas of the spine that can become tight.
The thoracic spine is a key contributor to functional rotation in the human body, Either excessive movement or lack of movement in one area can greatly hinder the performance of another area. However the function of the spine can sometimes blend into daily training and quite often, athletes may not give it a second thought until an injury occurs. Unfortunately sometimes it can be the straw that broke the camels back!
Yoga therapy rehabilitation is to achieve a proper balance of strength and motion for the surrounding areas, For example if you take cycling or rowing if not practiced correctly, may cause tightness in the thoracic spine because of the position of the body on the bike or erg. Rounding of the back and shoulders can cause serious problems but is also increasing pressure on the lungs, digestive system and heart. This workshop will be interesting and besides taking you through a yogic view of the spine, yoga therapy is gentle and effective as it goes deeper and works with the connective tissue of the body.
While directing your awareness inwards, you will be alert for signals of pain, sharp or electrical sensations so you will learn to ease off and settle for less. “Less is more” is very much part of my teaching. You will learn to move with the spine in mind, and that mobility must come from the thoracic spine and NOT from the lumber spine. I am hoping that you will learn from my workshops and implement them into your training regime so take your sport to another level with:
Yoga Therapy Workshops
As a yoga therapist, I am delighted to announce that I will be offering a variety of workshop to enhance your training. Every sport has a weakness which can hold you back, but recognition and learning how to isolate the weakness can enable you to move forward and regain balance in your game.
These workshops are targeted at Sports enthusiasts from all backgrounds who may be a little curious or even weary of the word yoga, not to mention yoga therapy! Each week, I will be taking a therapeutic approach to specific areas of the body, but if the demand is there, I can run a workshop for a particular sport.
On a daily basis, I am getting calls from athletes who have heard of my SportsYoga.ie theory and are ready to take the plunge to take their sport to another level. My SportsYoga classes are busy at the Loft Yoga Studio and I thrive on attention to detail and alignment. I will work with twelve at any one time and currently have a waiting list for my classes.
Deep down I feel that serious athletes need the quality time that I give them, and they appreciate the individual attention and advice that I share with them. The aim of the workshops is to open up the concept of SportsYoga.ie and to allow athletes to listen to their bodies and to stay in their prime, improve their mental attitude or simply come along and chill in the wonderful ambiance of The Loft Yoga Studio. Clonlara, Co Clare. I will keep you posted on the update of the workshops but at present, I am planning to run the first one on Tuesday November 4th at 8.30 pm and every Tuesday after that until Christmas.
